The National Council wanted to confront the prosecution, and the National Council Immunity Committee also believes that an investigation should be authorized.

The committee decided differently in the case of national councilor Fabian Molina.

National Councilor Roger Köppel was charged with publishing confidential information in his “Weltwoche Daily” podcast on March 24, 2022, to which he had access as a member of the National Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee (APK-N).
Clear the result
The committee considered the link between the position of the National Council and the political career of the national councilor Köppel and the alleged actions to be given and unanimously accepted the request of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office. The committee then decided by voting nine to zero with three abstentions so as not to waive the immunity of councilor Köppel, as it writes in its statement.
After considering the interests of the prosecution service and the institutional interests of Parliament, the committee came to the conclusion that the matter was primarily about compliance with internal parliamentary rules and that there was no point in the federal prosecutor’s office dealing with the alleged breach of commission secrecy.
Köppel is threatening disciplinary action
In its letter, the Commission therefore proposes the National Council Immunity Committee (IK-N) to ask the National Council Office to investigate the imposition of disciplinary measures on the national councilor Köppel. IK-N must now re-address the matter as part of the correction of the differences.
Molina’s immunity is lifted
The commission decided differently in the case of Fabian Molina. He is accused of participating in an unauthorized demonstration. Although the advertisement sent by the association “We for you” is clearly politically motivated, it does not change the fact that Molina participated in the rally as a private person. The National Council of the SP is now facing a fine.
